Who I am

I am an assistant professor in design and mechanics group, department of mechanical engineering, Oregon State University, since 2001. I obtained my M.S. from Tsinghua University, Beijing, in 1992, and my Ph.D from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, in 2001. During the summer of 1997, 1998, and 1999, I worked as a research associate and technical trainee at Ford Scientific Research Laboratory, Dearborn, Michigan.

What I do

A combination of academia and industry working experiences has enabled me to pursue a variety of research projects woven around designing systems for cleaner environment and better human experience. My research work is specialized in fundamental study of design alternative generation and evaluation, risk-based design method, and negotiation support in distributed environment. Typical real world applications range from large-scale systems (such as vehicle and nuclear reactors) to micro-scale devices (such as portable cooling systems). The sponsors of my work include DoD and DARPA.
