Teaching

 

Dr. Gambatese teaches classes on construction engineering and management topics.  He has taught courses on: construction contracts and specifications, temporary construction structures, engineering planning, construction planning and scheduling, structural analysis and design, heavy civil construction management, construction safety and productivity improvement, and engineering economics.

CE 420/520 – Engineering Planning  The application of systems analysis to structuring, analyzing, and planning for civil engineering projects.  Concept of the system and its environment; setting goals, objectives, and standards; evaluation criteria; solution generation and analysis; and evaluation and optimization.  Project management using precedence node diagramming, resource allocation and leveling, time-cost trade-off, and PERT.  Prerequisites: none.  4 credits.  (Meeting days, time, and location to be determined.)

CE 427/527 – Temporary Construction Structures  Design and construction of temporary structures including formwork, shoring, and earth retaining structures.  Prerequisites: CE 321 and (FE 315 or CE 372) and (CEM 383 or CE 383).  4 credits.  (Meeting days, time, and location to be determined.)

 

Spring Quarter 2009 (March 30, 2009 - June 12, 2009):

 

CE 424/524 – Contracts and Specifications  Fundamentals of construction industry contacts, including technical specifications, and issues related to time, money, warranty, insurance, and changed conditions.  4 credits.  (Meeting days, time, and location to be determined.)

Dr. Gambatese’s research is in the areas of construction engineering and management.  His research interests include: construction safety, constructability, sustainability, innovation, risk, the design-construction interface, construction contracting methods, life-cycle properties of constructed facilities, and construction engineering.  The following is a list of research projects that he has been involved in:
